Prof Jenny Dankelman

Jenny Dankelman is a professor in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Interventional Techniques at the Delft University of Technology and has a background in Control and System Theory. Currently she develops novel medical instruments, with a focus on affordable and reusable multi-functional devices for low-resource settings. For her activities she was awarded the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek chair, the Professor of Excellence award, the Royal award of Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion. She is member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Dr. Jakub Gajewski is a health sociologist with extensive research experience. He has been involved in several population-based studies, including studies of young people’s well-being, diabetes and epilepsy. For over a decade he has been the lead researcher on several implementation research projects focusing on building the surgical capacity of district hospitals in Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania. Currently, he works as Programme Director for Research at the Institute of Global Surgery in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Dr Alaa Mohamed

A Sudanese certified anaesthesia and intensive care technologist and a former lecturer at University of Gezira, Sudan. She is pursuing an MSc degree in Global Surgery at the University of Cape Town, with a research focus on Task Sharing and Task Shifting in Anaesthesia in Low-Income Countries, with the goal of completing a PhD. Following her MSc degree in Intensive Care Sciences from the University of Gezira, she developed a strong clinical interest in respiratory therapy for intensive care unit patients. She is now seeking registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) while working as a lecturer at King Saud Bin AbdulAziz University for Health Sciences in Saudi Arabia. She aspires to start and run a business that provides low-cost, easily accessible instruments, technology, and training for better anesthesia and critical care practices in Sudan and Eastern Africa.
